John Swain, Jr.
Mr. Swain’s practice focuses primarily on corporate, commercial, and real estate matters. Mr. Swain articled at WWE before joining our firm as an associate. Prior to joining the British Columbia bar, Mr. Swain summered at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the City of Chicago’s Department of Economic Development International Business Development Program, and the law firm of Chapman and Cutler.
After serving four years as Vice President and General Counsel for a broadcast television production company, he spent twelve years as the principal managing lawyer of small boutique law firms in Chicago that focused on real estate, corporate matters, commercial transactions, and related civil litigation. He has acted for buyers, sellers, borrowers, developers, corporations, manufacturers, retailers, start-ups, growth companies, and qualified investors covering a variety of matters across various industries.
Mr. Swain has experience negotiating, reviewing, and litigating a wide variety of real estate, corporate and commercial matters including: purchase and sale agreements, municipal redevelopment agreements, mortgages, commercial leases, private placements, corporate resolutions, corporate filings, and shareholder agreements. He’s also advised clients in matters addressing creditor’s remedies, property damage claims, confidential information, non-disclosure arrangements, restrictive covenants, copyright infringement, organizational structuring, and new market development.
In addition to his legal and business experience, Mr. Swain served as an adjunct lecturer and seminar presenter for the Purdue University- Calumet College of Business and Center for Entrepreneurship Success covering undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA, and Seminar curricula. He also served on the pastoral staff of large multi-cultural Vancouver church for almost five years.
His hobbies include a variety of music related interests including learning bass guitar, attending concerts, and enjoying music documentaries.
